April 2018 Newsletter
Spring is here and the recital is only 9 weeks away! This year’s show theme is “#Throwback” and we are having so much fun with music and choreography in class! We can’t wait for you to see everything! This letter should answer any questions you have concerning the recital. Please don’t hesitate to contact us if you have any additional questions or concerns. We’re always here to help!
Make Up Classes
Teachers will be handing out notes in class concerning make up classes for any classes missed due to the studio closing. Please contact the studio if you need to make up a tumble class as those can be made up by coming to another weekly class.
Costumes will be handed out as they arrive. Please try on your costumes immediately and let us know if there are any problems. Do not let your child play in their costumes. We cannot replace lost or damaged costumes in time for the show! Costumes must be paid for in full before they can be handed out. Final costume payments were added to your April statement.
Recital group and individual pictures will be taken at the studio May 31st & June 1st for recital classes and on June 2nd for company dancers. We like to have all of the dancers in the group shot even if you don’t plan on purchasing pictures. You will need to pay for your pictures when they are taken if you want to order group or individual packages. A day and time schedule will be posted on the SSDS TeamApp under the events tab.
Dancer’s must remain backstage during the recital, so we depend on parent volunteers to help with classes backstage. If you are interested in being a “backstage mom” please put your name on the sign-up sheet in the lobby. Backstage helpers will be able to go into the auditorium to watch their dancer’s performance, but will need to stay backstage with the group in their assigned areas for the rest of the show. Only Twinkle Star dancers will be allowed to go into the auditorium to sit with their parents at intermission. We will call all dancers backstage for awards time at the end of the show.
May 7th-10th we are having one more Parents Week so you can all come in and view your child’s routines. We invite you to video so you’ll have the music and choreography to help your child practice at home. Your teacher will be answering any questions you have about the recital and giving you additional information to make the show run smoothly. Please mark your calendars and plan to attend!
Dress rehearsal will be on Friday, June 15th at the James Warren Citizens Center in Lincolnton. We stagger the rehearsal times so that you won’t have to be at the auditorium all evening. You will need to allow 1 ½ to 2 hours for your rehearsal. Please be on time and dressed in your first costume for dress rehearsal. More detailed information will be sent out closer to recital time so you’ll know what order your routines will be in the show.

5:30 Dress rehearsal begins for Monday, Tuesday & Wednesday Twinkle Stars classes
6:30 Dress rehearsal begins for Tuesday Rising Stars & Monday Shining Stars classes
7:30 Dress rehearsal begins for Monday & Wednesday Shooting Stars classes & Boys class
**Tumble Classes will not have a dress rehearsal
Our 27th Annual Recital will be held at the James Warren Citizens Center in Lincolnton on Saturday, June 16th. We have three shows times for our recital with an awards ceremony at the end of each show. All students will receive a trophy for their years in dance/gymnastics at the recital. Additional awards will be given in each age group for each class.

10:00 Show time for solos/duets/trios
12:00 Show time for dance recital classes
2:30 Show time for tumble classes NEW
5:00 Show time for company dancers
**PLEASE REMEMBER THAT IF LINCOLN COUNTY HAS A RUNOFF ELECTION WE WILL HAVE TO MOVE THE REHEARSAL AND RECITAL TO NORTH LINCOLN HIGH SCHOOL.
Program Book Ads & Recital Fees
All students are charged a $60 recital fee. This fee includes a 1/8 page personal ad in our awesome program book! There are sample ad pages and ad forms available at the studio and on TeamApp. If you sell at least $60 in ads for the program, you will not have to pay the recital fee. All ads and monies are due by April 30th.
You have the opportunity to earn money towards your dance account by selling additional ads. Dancers that sell $500 or more in recital ads will earn ½ of the total sales as a credit on their dance account. No matter how much you sell over the $500 mark, you are getting ½ back! So get out there and sell those ads!

Each year we produce a recital t-shirt with the recital theme & date on the front and all of the dancers names listed on the back. If you want to order a shirt for yourself or your dancer please fill out an order form and return it with payment in full by May 13th. We don’t order extra shirts, so the only way to get one is to order now! Order forms and a picture of this year’s shirt are available under the Class Documents tab. Remember, all tumble students will receive a t-shirt as a part of their recital costume, so you will need to fill out a form but you do not need to pay for a shirt.
Summer Camps & Classes
We have some awesome classes and camps planned for this summer! We will be holding several camps, along with weekly classes and a boot camp this summer. The schedules are in the works, so watch for more info coming out soon!
